Code & Theory (Agency) :: Fortune 100 Company (Client)
Approach
The study aimed to understand current perceptions, behaviors, and preferences around the job-seeking process and assess the usability of the company’s existing Careers Site to inform its incorporation into the new site. The methodology included 60-minute virtual in-depth interviews (IDIs) conducted with a mix of audiences. Discussions focused on job-seeking behaviors, perceptions of financial institutions, and needs related to the Careers site content.
Outcome & Impact
The research established that time is the user’s most valuable resource, and making it difficult to apply or source information erodes affinity. Users tend to approach company websites with skepticism, viewing them as marketing tools and preferring unbiased third-party sources (such as Glassdoor) for information on company culture. Key pain points identified that suggest a devaluation of employees included the absence of salary ranges in job descriptions, limited filters, and unintuitive search functionality.
The findings led to recommendations focusing on implementing:
Transparency: Actively displaying salary ranges upfront and potentially linking to review sites.
Efficiency: Allowing candidates to apply using existing profiles (like LinkedIn Easy Apply) to respect their time and avoid duplication of effort.
Relevance: Implementing improved filters (e.g., by role, salary, location, experience, and education level) and ensuring job descriptions are detailed, clearly articulating the role's fit within the wider company and its growth potential.
